Sharon has been a program specialist for assistive technology (AT), autism, early childhood special education, and program improvement at the Virginia Department of Education’s (VDOE) Training and Technical Assistance Center (T/TAC) at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) for over 30 years. She currently serves as the VDOE State-wide AT and Distance Education Coordinator and supports the efforts of the VDOE AT Network.
In this role, she provides a variety of training and technical assistance on evidence-based AT practices to professionals and families working with infants, toddlers, children and youth with a variety of disabilities. Her passion is supporting families and professionals in identifying and creating low cost AT and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) solutions for young children. She also assists targeted schools and programs in long term planning leading to changes in policies, procedures, and instructional practices in the areas of assistive technology and inclusive practices.
