Conference Program

Using Assistive Technology to Support Meaningful Early Learning
Presented by: Jessica Amsbary and Ann Sam
Date & Time: Wednesday, November 20, 2024 9:00 AM - 11:45 AM ET
Location: CR7 ( Lower Level )

This session will use the recent Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) Myths and Facts report on assistive technology (AT) to help participants access and use AT as part of their everyday routines and activities. We will provide an overview of the guidance suggested by OSEP and include interactive activities to debunk the myths. We will also include specific examples of AT that attendees can explore and try out during the session. We will also share their team’s next steps that involve conducting listening sessions with families and practitioners about what they desire when accessing and using AT with their children and students. After the session participants will be able to:

  1. Describe assistive technology and its benefits for young children.
  2. Explain specific ways that they will be able to embed assistive technology into their own early childhood/early intervention work settings.

Whilst AT Network strives to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so when linking to documents and sites outside of our site. We are continually seeking out solutions that will bring these other areas up to the same level of overall web accessibility. In the meantime, should you experience any difficulty in accessing the material, please don’t hesitate to contact us at matthewn@vt.edu.
