In Part 2 of this 2-part series, we will address “what” we can do to enhance social emotional engagement in the classroom. In this session, participants will explore the “what” of enhancing engagement by sharing and exploring strategies that enhance social emotional engagement in the classroom setting. Consistent with a Universal Design for Learning (UDL) framework, Social Emotional Engagement - Knowledge and Skills (SEE-KS) provides freely accessible tools that participants will be able to use for designing instruction to get the hook, present information in different ways, and foster different modes of expression.
Participants will:
- Learn about the freely accessible tool, the SEE-KS Quick Reference tool, as a reference for identifying strategies for enhancing engagement.
- Identify three domains of essential instructional strategies that promote active student engagement and positive outcomes in learning and emotional well-being.
- Apply a checklist of instructional strategies for fostering the emotional “hook,” providing information in different ways, and fostering multiple modes of expression
Whilst AT Network strives to adhere to the accepted guidelines and standards for accessibility and usability, it is not always possible to do so when linking to documents and sites outside of our site. We are continually seeking out solutions that will bring these other areas up to the same level of overall web accessibility. In the meantime, should you experience any difficulty in accessing the material, please don’t hesitate to contact us at matthewn@vt.edu.
