Educational Specialist for Speech Language Pathology
Virginia Department of Education
Marie Ireland, MEd, CCC-SLP, serves as the Virginia Department of Education's educational specialist for Speech Language Pathology. She also provides professional development and technical assistance for evaluation and eligibility, language diversity, and general special education issues in Virginia. Mrs. Ireland received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh, her master’s degree from the University of Virginia, and is an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist. She has worked in Virginia's public schools as a speech-language pathologist at the elementary and secondary level and supervised programs for special education students K-12. She served on the Speech-Language Hearing Association of Virginia’s Board for 6 years, and ASHA’s Legislative Council and SLP Advisory Council for 8 years. She is currently serving as the Past President of the State Education Agencies Communication Disabilities Council and is the chair of the ASHA Medicaid Committee.
